A Christian Nationalist Has A Dream

As I walked through the wilderness of California, I came to a certain place that seemed like a jail, and I laid down in that place to sleep; and as I slept I dreamed a dream…

I was driving through Bakersfield on CA 99, and I came to an overpass that inspired me to grab the country station dial. There it was: “Merle Haggard Way”, and I was ready to hear, “Are the Good Times Really Over” or “The Fightin’ Side of Me.” Don’t people see “we’re rolling downhill like snowball headed for hell?” Yes, these people, “they love our milk and honey but they preach about some other way of livin’.”

I’m tired of an effeminate culture; men are weak and Christians today are compromised on almost every single issue, they’ve adopted the social agenda of the political left and the country is going to hell in a handbasket for it. Social justice, liberation theology, sexual revolution, feminism, etc.—there’s a giant crisis of identity, you know, in attempted cultural adaptability.

We’ve been demonized by the culture for too long. And who are these infidels to take down God’s country? It’s not their country, it's mine, it’s Jesus’, so it’s time to reclaim it for Christ. I confess, my Bible has been in the glovebox for too long, dusty from the Bakersfield corn fields. After all, doesn’t the Bible say “Blessed is that nation whose God is the Lord?” Enough is enough, I’m off to Idaho. It will be a lot easier to make fires there, especially in November, where I won’t be fined for dropping the match.

If I’m going to make any difference in this life, I need to be around my own people. It’s time to hunker down, you know. I want space, a little ranch, and some open terrain, a place where I can hunker down and survive—a place where I can “praise the Lord and pass the ammunition.”

I have decided that I'm going to write a book on “Christian Nationalism.” It’s the perfect moment because people need answers, they’re afraid, and need a way forward. Just watch it become a bestseller. We need a nation where we can trust our neighbors, and “have mutual expectations of conduct, speech, and beliefs according to Christian standards.” The reality is that we should be with our own people, heretics shouldn’t exist, and a Christian revolution is necessary. What we need is men who will stand together in the cause. The sheep need to see a bold, fearless leader who doesn’t care at all about offense.

With my new book in hand, and my new community, and the computer screen, I will cast a vision of taking back America to give people hope. I know we can create a godly culture for Christ, and save America.

It can be done.

Then I woke from my dream and opened my Bible and the place where I landed was this:

Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him, “for all who draw the sword will die by the sword.

I realized that the impulse of Peter to turn from disciple to sword-warrior is exactly the spirit that had overcome me.

In my dream of attempting to save America I had only made matters worse, nothing but division, discord, lying, fighting, rivalries, and bad fruit followed in my own little camp. How was I to save America if my own house was in dissaray? Anger was driving me, and it certainly wasn’t righteous. I forgot that unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. If I ever desire to see many seeds in God’s kingdom, and to see change in any sort of meaningful way, I too must die to myself, along with my own vision of how I want to see Christ’s kingdom come, my way.

It was Jesus who said that he came to "seek and to save that which was lost," and I realized upon waking from my dream that I had forgotten the very purpose for which I have been left on this earth, that people might be saved, as the old children’s catechism says, from the wrath and judgment of God. And that, truth be told, I cared more about my comforts in Idaho than those wicked, baby-aborting Ninevites.

I was again convinced that until heaven and earth pass away, Jesus wants the gospel of the kingdom preached in all of the world as a witness and then the end will come. This old mission of saving people from their sins was still the greatest need of the hour.

Back to Bakersfield, Ca, confident in my calling to be a witness to tax collectors and sinners, to do good and seek justice for the good of these neighbors, I decided to go.
