Solomon was the most magnificent king in Israel's history. Scripture says plainly that he loved the Lord, and when God offered him anything he wanted, he humbly asked for an understanding, listening heart to govern God's people. God was pleased and gave him unmatched wisdom, along with the riches and honor he never asked for. Yet the same king who loved the Lord in chapter 3 is said to have loved many foreign women in chapter 11, and his heart was turned after other gods. Pastor Chris Gordon shows that the trouble did not begin late in Solomon's life; the seeds of compromise—a marriage alliance with Egypt and worship at the high places—were present from the start.
