I “Begg” To Differ

It happens often: an influential pastor makes a controversial statement and it explodes like a match lit to a stick of dynamite! In this week’s episode, guest Rev. Dr. Daniel Borvan joins Pastor Chris Gordon to discuss recent comments made by Pastor Alistair Begg on gay marriage and how it has effected the Christian community. They answer the question of whether Christians should attend anti-biblical marriages. Additionally, they highlight how the issue extends beyond just Begg's statement itself; but also the lack of church guidelines in place to protect the true word of God and instill proper accountability. They address what the appropriate leadership role of a pastor is and how the offices of the church exist to create balance, and keep the focus on the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Rev. Dr. Daniel Borvan is pastor of preaching ministry at Christ Reformed Church. His responsibilities are to “preach the Word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching” (2 Timothy 4:2).Daniel earned his Master of Divinity degree from Westminster Seminary California in 2011. As a student at Westminster Seminary he learned that all study of Scripture, theology, and church history is put into practice in the worship and work of the church. The goal is to glorify Christ by serving His church. At Westminster Seminary he also earned a Master of Arts degree in Historical Theology. His thesis paper was on Faustus Socinus.In 2019 Daniel went on to earn a Doctor of Philosophy in Theology from Oxford University in England. His interest was on the French Reformation which prompted him to write his doctoral dissertation on Pierre Du Moulin, "Fighting For The Faith: Pierre Du Moulin's Polemical Quest." He recently gave a presentation on the perseverance of the French Reformation Church at Providence Christian College.Daniel is chairman of the Heidelberg Reformation Association. Some of his published articles are on the Heidelblog website. Daniel was installed as pastor of preaching ministry at Christ Reformed ChurchSeptember 29, 2023, having served four years at Grace Torrance United Reformed Church in Torrance, California as minister of Word and sacrament. Daniel is married to Marcy and they have two daughters and a son.
