Pastor Chris Gordon preaches from 1 Kings 22, one of the most startling passages in the Old Testament. Ahab, king of Israel, wants to go to war for Ramoth Gilead, and he assembles four hundred prophets who unanimously promise him victory. Jehoshaphat, the godly king of Judah, is not satisfied and asks whether there is a true prophet left to inquire of. There is one — Micaiah — and Ahab admits he hates him, because Micaiah never tells him anything he wants to hear. What follows is a rare window into the council of the Lord, a warning that the comfortable word Ahab demanded was itself the judgment he received, and a death on the battlefield brought about by an arrow drawn at random.
